I am a recently retired state K-9 Training and Development coordinator in Virginia I retired with the rank of Captain. I began in the K-9 field of Law Enforcement with Chesterfield County Police Dept. I was a Police service dog handler of a 110 lbs. German Shepard and worked this dog for approx. 5 years before moving to Powhatan County, Va. I was hired with the Va. Dept of Corr. In Powhatan in 1977, and I was immediately placed into the K-9 Unit working man trailing bloodhounds for 12 years. I developed and implemented the first police service dog program for the Va. D.O.C.
In 1989, I attended the Va. State police positive response narcotic K-9 school at SPHQ. After completion, my black lab "Spar" and I were detailed to work with many local, state, and Federal Law Enforcement Agency's.
In 1994, I successfully completed the Virginia State Police Narcotic positive response K-9 Instructors School.
Shortly after that I was promoted to the position of "Northern Region K-9 Coordinator" with the rank of LT. In the summer of 1995, it was decided the Va. D.O.C needed there own K-9 training academy working out of the main training academy in Goochland Co, Va. I was selected for the position of Narcotic K-9 Instructor titled –Training and Development Coordinator with the rank of Captain.
In Jan. of 1996, I was sent to the "U.S Customs K-9 Training Facility"
in Front Royal, Virginia.
I successfully completed the instructors course for Training Passive
Narcotic dogs, titled as "Passenger Processing Technical Trainers
Course #50010," on April 11, 1996.
While I held this position, I trained over 22 classes for positive
and passive response narcotic dogs and handlers. Each class would
last approximately 12 weeks. The number of handlers per class would
average between 5 to 7 handlers and the number of dogs could be
between 1 to 3 dogs per handler depending on K-9 attrition due to
abilities. Many of the Officers I trained were from departments
from with the State of Virginia, however I trained officers from
other states and other countries after they were recommend to us
by the US. Customs training division
I retired on Jan. 1st 2004, with over 30 years experience
in working and training dogs and handlers. My objective now is to
raise and partly train, (depending on what the buyer wants) quality
Labrador Retrievers for use in Law Enforcement, Military, and Search
and Rescue as K-9 candidates for Narcotic , Explosive, and Search
and Rescue training schools.
Also, I will have excellent pups available for sale to good families
that will make great pets, field trial or hunting dogs.
I continually search for the best bloodlines, genetics and K-9
conformation, anywhere!
